School’s Out for Summer
What does structure for kids look like in the summer for kids?
With summer being here and school being out, sometimes it can be difficult to entertain your kids. Especially for parents that struggle with consistent day care and/or work from home.
There are a few things you can do:
Encourage creative play (legos, Minecraft, building things, drawing things, etc.). This is a good way to allow your kid to express themselves and use their imagination.
It can be hard sometimes, but limiting screen time/electronics – it’s important for kids to learn new things by doing, rather than watching. It will help children develop problem solving skills.
Have them go outside with a trusted adults supervision. Going outside during nice weather is a good way to help a child release some energy and have some fun.
Lastly, have the child hang out with a friend. Peer development is important to reinforce during the summer. Especially since your child isn’t around kids all the time as they would be in school.
“Never extinguish a child’s curiosity simple because it inconvenience us as adults. You want them to retain that curiously throughout their lives.” – Neil deGrasse Tyson
